My Betta fish has a big belly and its scales are outstanding. Can anyone tell me if what's wrong with him?
I realized that it had reached a bit bigger this week, even though they have kept the same diet of pellets and mosquito larvae for two years. He is only two years age (or at least I bought it two years ago). Thanks, any response is appreciated.
It could be dropsy, which can be caused by infection bacterial, viral or fungal infection that usually leads to organ failures. It is unfortunately quite common in bettas. Makes all the organs to swell and finally the fish scales stand out and open up a pineapple. A lot of fish die because of this, but I'm pretty sure it can be treated if the condition detected early. Here's a page with more information. I hope the fish do not have this: http://www.healthybetta.com/fish-dropsy Here is a picture of a fish with hydrops: http://docbs.homestead.com/files/dropsy2.jpg I hope that helped you somehow.
