do dietary supplements effect birth control pills?

i know antibiotics and st. johns wart have an impact on the effectiveness of birth control. i’ve talked to my doctor about herbal supplements and she said there wasn’t any proof that they can effect the pill. i was just wondering if anyone had heard differently or experienced anything that made them think that herbal supplements would have and impact on the pill.

As long as the supplements don’t somehow change your estrogen and progesterone levels, then the function of the pill won’t be disturbed. Also, you want to make sure there are any chemical reactions going on between the supplements and the pills, just so they don’t affect each other’s physiological roles.
