Why do people lose weight on a liquid diet even if it’s a lot of calories?
A friend of mine who had to have his jaw wired shut used to drink protein shakes and juices and soup and soft ice cream and anything else he could get his hands on during that time, but he still lost a ton of weight. This wasn’t a guy who had a super fast metabolism beforehand either. So my theory was proven when my tooth was almost knocked out and I ate jell-o, soup, juice, etc. for two weeks straight. Seemed like I couldn’t get my hands on enough to eat when that happened, but I still lost 15lbs.
So, long story short…why do people lose weight on a liquid diet even if it’s a lot of calories?
Liquid diets are low residue, easily absorbed and tend to have low caloric density by volume. There are fewer chemicals and the food tends to be more wholesome than lets say a double cheeseburger w/bacon.
Basically there’s nothing stored in his digestive tract for very long which could be 5-10 pounds of waste on a normal solid food diet and fewer toxic chemicals for the body to deal with.
He’s eating/drinking healthy which is all most people really need to do to lose weight.
