Menopause is a difficult experience for any woman. Most symptoms are annoying. Often times the treatments take forever to work (or do not work at all). You probably have all sorts of people giving you unsolicited advice. By now you have frequent bouts of “leave me alone” moments. Truthfully, it’s expected since one of your symptoms is irritability. Thankfully there is a veritable smorgasbord of menopause treatments available to you.

If one of the treatments fails for you there are always others to try. See the following treatments for options you may not have discovered yet.

Try loading up on phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens come directly from nutrious foods. Lignans and isoflavones are two forms of phytoestrogens found in a variety of food you eat and might not realize. You can find lignans in foods that contain flaxseed, whole grains and they are also in many fruits and vegetables.

Isoflavones can be found in many soy products including soy beans as well as in some of the beans we eat. Women who prefer not to use hormone replacement therapy should choose these foods. There are no solid studies on phytoestrogens. Treatment results vary greatly depending on the person. Decreased symptoms have been reported by some women. Others respond better to hormone therapies given through their doctor’s office.

Yoga, believe it or not, has been proven to be an effective menopause treatment. There have been studies done that show regular yoga helps decrease the amount of hot flashes that a woman will experience. The intensity of a woman’s hot flashes won’t be as intense as the hot flashes of people who don’t do yoga. Another reason that yoga is thought to be a beneficial menopause treatment is that, in addition to helping a woman’s body feel better, yoga can raise her spirits as well.

Black cohosh is a controversial treatment for menopause. Lots of women who have used black cohosh have reported it as effective in decreasing symptom severity.

Studies have shown, however, that taken over a long period of time, black cohosh can have some very serious side effects like nausea, headaches, dizziness, problems with one’s vision and even heart issues. We strongly advise you to consult a physcian before beginning treatment with black cohosh. Do not take it longer than six months or the aforementioned side effects could develop.

It is not possible to come up with a universal treatment for menopause. There is no single menopause treatment that works on every woman. Many women decide that the best way to deal with all of the symptoms of menopause is to combine the major types of treatments: lifestyle, herbal and medicinal. Other women decide that they only wan to try one kind of treatment at a time. Still others insist that menopause is not actually happening to them. You will know what is right for you. Make sure, however, that no matter what kind of menopause treatment that you decide to try, you run it past your doctor. Don’t try anything new without your doctor’s okay. You don’t want to do more harm than good to yourself.
