In terms of travel insurance there is coverage for trip cancellation, medical coverage, medical evacuation, and then there is insurance for extreme sports.  There is backpackers insurance and there’s even insurance for scuba diving, and for the daredevil there’s a coverage for extreme sports.  Other types of travel health insurance include winter sports travel insurance and skiing travel insurance.

Within the list of extreme sports are things that might be unusual for you but for those that do them, it is just like their usual daily activities.  Scuba diving, BMX biking, skiing, and surfing are only some.  These things aren’t typically covered by your standard health insurance, so before participating in any extreme sport, consider your options in travel insurance.  One thing you should know about these policies though is that they don’t cover for professionals but only for people who do these things just for fun.  It is surprising in a way because one would think that it is more risky for someone who does it just for fun in comparison to someone who has been doing these things all the time.  The thing to remember here is that for professionals, it is their job so they look at it a little bit differently.

The coverage for extreme sports only works if you are traveling out of the country, so if you are sky diving in your backyard today, don’t expect it to be covered.  Normally, if you are taking part in an activity like this near your home, those companies will require you to buy one of their accident policies to cover themselves if something happens to your equipment and so forth.  Either way, make sure you ask about what their coverage is.

These policies will also vary in premiums based on what you are doing, how old you are, and how many children you have.  These types of policies could cost from $64 and above, and would normally cover you for as much as $50,000.
